Matt,
I just read your article "Election priorities: Latinos v. Blacks" and I must say that I am increasingly upset that people in the press are continuing to
cite Paula McClain's research when they discuss the competition and/or strained relations between Latinos and Blacks, concluding that Latinos would not support Obama. Her research is on Latinos in one city and her findings are in no way reflective of what a representative
>national sample of Latinos indicates about their feelings towards Blacks. If you will send me your email address, I will forward to you 3 relevant power point slides summarizing the Latino response to questions about commonality with Blacks and Whites from the 2006 Latino National Survey (N=7,000+). As you will see, immigrant status and national origins make the relationship much more complicated but overall Latinos feel more commonality with Blacks than Whites and they see their future linked with Blacks. More findings from the Latino National survey can be viewed at http://depts.washington.edu/uwiser/LNS.shtml

Best wishes,
Valerie
